Across the Hauraki Gulf from Auckland lies the idyllic town of Coromandel on the Coromandel Peninsula. Around here, you will find some of New Zealand’s most spectacularly beautiful beaches, including the sheltered cove at Oamaru Bay and the great paddling conditions at Long Bay. • The Coromandel is a walker’s paradise with a range of local trails to explore including Castle Rock or the Coromandel Coastal Walkway.
• Take a day trip along the famous 309 Road to visit The Waterworks, to see stands of gigantic 600 year old Kauri trees and to get a feel for what really being off the beaten track is all about.
• Visit the Gold Stamper Battery to find out about the Coromandel Town’s gold mining history.
• Take a train ride through the wonderful native bush at Driving Creek Railway.
• Visit Rapaura Watergardens a wonderful garden set in native New Zealand bush with relaxing café serving delicious food.
